I’m delighted to have discovered this post and your excellent video on a subject that has been troubling me for quite awhile. “Either/or” thinking limits our choices. When leaders stay at one pole too long, their organizations become imbalanced. In order to sustain results over the long term, it is essential to have an approach that effectively integrates strategy/tactics, hard/soft, leadership/management, business/people, planning/execution, long-term/short-term, etc. Thank you for so clearly differentiating the strategy/execution polarity.

Awareness is the first step toward understanding. It’s important for people to recognize the value of contribution at all levels. Blind-spots exist for a reason – people can’t see them. Those who don’t see value in certain activities will make no effort to change. Help people to see how things really are, as opposed to how they think things are, and you’ll be headed down the right path.
